Waxed cotton is somewhat breathable when compared to other types of waterproof garments. This depends on how much wax is on the garment. If the material is just saturated with the oil-wax finish like it comes when brand-new, the proofing is held within the fibers of the garment and the tiny spaces between the woven threads work along with similar principles as breathable membranes of technical rainwear.

If there is a non-absorbed coating of wax on the exterior of the jacket, then those pores will be blocked and less breathable. Given this variance (and lack of testing) we do not have a gram-quantified breathability rating for waxed garments.
